• 2019 Lamborghini Urus and 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo compete for Willow Springs production SUV lap record

Comparing the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo is somewhat amusing. Why? Because they both utilize the same chassis platform and even the same drivetrain. The 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 is Porsche designed and Lamborghini puts their own touches on it.

The chassis is the same platform as well but obviously Porsche and Lamborghini take their own approaches.

So what exactly does the Urus give you for $100k+ over the Cayenne Turbo? Performance wise, not much.

MotorTrend tested both SUV's at Willow Springs and the previous record holder for production SUV laptimes was the BMW F86 X6M.

      F86 X6M - 1:32.36
      3rd gen Cayenne Turbo - 1:31.59
      Urus - 1:30.87

So the Lamborghini Urus while carrying almost 200 less pounds and offering 100 more horsepower and 60 more lb-ft of torque over the Cayenne Turbo managed to edge it by less than a second. Another $100,000+ does not even buy you a full second on the track?

The Cayenne Turbo S will likely close the gap and nobody would be surprised if the new X6M takes back the crown.

The Lamborghini does drive differently as Randy Pobst attesses to:

It's like the opposite of the Porsche. It turns in great, but then I get a big push midcorner. I have to wait on it before I can go to power. Then it rockets out of the corner, but I feel like I'm losing time waiting for the front end to come back.
While fast and the production SUV record holder (for however long that lasts) it does not seem that the Urus offers the performance edge one would expect from a Lamborghini SUV.
